Red Deer Rebels holds annual book drive

The Red Deer Rebels and Books on the Bus is holding their annual book drive Feb. 5 at the Rebels Game at the ENMAX Centrium.

There will be volunteers on-site to take donations of new and gently used adult paperback books, and hardcover and paperback children’s books.

Books on the Bus is a mobile free library on Red Deer Transit and BOLT buses that helps passengers who can’t get to the public library to access materials. The informal borrowing method gives riders the flexibility to take home books without facing possible fines.

Books on the Bus started in January of 2016. The first pilot project of its kind to come to Canada, it started out with four city buses. In the first two years of this program, more than 19,000 books were donated. The program has expanded to 12 buses, which includes the BOLT buses going between Red Deer and Lacombe, as well as the Regional 2A South bus that goes to Penhold and Innisfail.

If you aren’t attending the Rebels game, books can also be donated at:
• Any city recreation centre
• City Hall
• Sorenson Station
• Large volume donations can be taken to the Cosmos Karma Cafe
