Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools gets $15,600 grant

Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools has received a $15,600 grant from the Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) to help enrich the Family School Enhancement Program for students attending St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Catholic School in Innisfail and their families.

“This grant will help my school in a number of ways,” said Principal Kelly Jacobson at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Catholic School.

“We are planning on hosting positive parenting sessions two times throughout the year, with the hope of working with up to 20 families throughout the year (10 at a time). We have many ideas for this money, with the hope of helping our most vulnerable families feel more connected to supports and their children who live in Innisfail.”

“Our Family School Enhancement program continues to be family-focused with emphasis placed on preventive programming. We strive to provide opportunities for our families to develop their positive parenting approach and healthy family relationships, strengthen coping skills and become more resistant in a crisis. We are also committed to developing a common language, understanding, and practice of the 40 Developmental Assets.”

This grant funding goes a long way to support us in our work to increase both personal attachments, as well as a greater community connectedness for our families at our school and the town of Innisfail,” said
Family School Enhancement Counsellor, Jennifer Hare at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Catholic School.

“Our Family School Enhancement Programs are highly trained and experienced individuals who bridge the gap between families, local/community agencies and the school,” said Michelle Wright, Division Principal at Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools. “They ensure that our students and their families are able to access the necessary supports to function optimally.”
