RED DEER – A man was arrested June 4 after fleeing from police and driving dangerously through several neighbourhoods in south east Red Deer.
Shortly after 1 p.m. on June 4, Red Deer RCMP attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation, however the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. A police helicopter was used to track the vehicle and the vehicle was observed to be driving at high speeds through several neighbourhoods in south east Red Deer and on 40 Avenue. A tire deflation device was used to slow the vehicle.
The driver abandoned the vehicle in the McKenzie Trails area and fled on foot before entering the Red Deer River. Members and Police Dog Services entered the river and brought the driver to shore.
A 28 year old man of Red Deer was arrested for flight from police, dangerous driving, obstruction, possession of stolen property, and various breaches. Additional charges are pending.
