Camps at Collicutt Centre, G.H. Dawe Community Centre and Intermediate School
The City of Red Deer has modified summer day camps amid the on-going COVID-19 pandemic.
A number of summer day camps will begin Monday, July 6 through Friday, Aug. 21 for children ages 6-12 years.
“We acknowledge that summer day camps play an important role for Red Deer’s families,” said Shelley Gagnon, Recreation Parks and Culture Manager. “We recognize that these programs are important for both the children’s well-being as well as an important opportunity to socialize and make community connections. We are excited to be able to offer modified programming for children this summer.”
Small camp sizes will be offered in dedicated spaces at the Collicutt Centre, G.H. Dawe Community Centre and the Intermediate School (Culture Services). Half-day programming will be available at each facility in both the morning and afternoon, Monday-Friday, for a total of six camp options per week. This will allow us to comply with provincial health regulations with a focus on safety and sanitization.
Camps will provide summer activity for children to experience play, creativity and fun while developing relationships and a sense of mastery. Day camps will challenge kids to explore numerous activities including performing arts, physical literacy, outdoor field and cooperative games.
Enhanced health and safety protocols will be in place to ensure the safety of staff, campers and families. We are currently working through the provincial health guidelines to adapt our day camps to mitigate the risk of COVID-19. Measures will include the use of appropriate PPE, providing hand sanitizer stations at our camp facilities, designating sick rooms, planning physically distant activities, using designated entrances and more. In order to comply with provincial health regulations and ensure that physical distance is maintained for the health and safety of campers and staff, the preschool camps will not move forward this summer. A full plan is being created now and information will be given to parents upon camp startup.
