Red Deer RCMP rescue 11 rafters

Red Deer RCMP responded to a request for assistance on the Red Deer River Saturday afternoon after a group of 11 river rafters became entangled with a bridge abutment near Gaetz Avenue.

Red Deer City Emergency Services assisted in the rescue. Seven rafters were located on one side of the river, three on the other side. The eleventh person was located down river.

All 11 (nine adults and two youth) rafters were rescued from the river and no injuries were reported.

Red Deer RCMP would like to advise the public that the Red Deer river is currently flowing faster and higher than normal. As such all precautions should be taken when entering the waterway, including the wearing of personal flotation devices.
