Construction on Blackfalds’ new school slated to begin in 2021

BLACKFALDS – Construction of Blackfalds’ new Grade 9 – 12 school is expected to start summer 2021 with it being completed June 2024.

Blackfalds actively campaigned and planned for a high school for almost a decade and even setting aside land for the new school on the west side of town.

Blackfalds has three Iron Ridge campuses. Iron Ridge Elementary (Pre-kindergarten – 3), Iron Ridge Intermediate (Grades 4 – 6) and Iron Ridge Junior (Grades 7 – 9) as well as St. Gregory the Great Catholic School (Pre K – Grade 9).

Grade 10 – 12 students in Blackfalds are currently bused to Ecole Secondaire Composite High School in Lacombe.

During its Aug. 19 regular board meeting, trustees from Wolf Creek Public School received a report regarding the conclusion of the initial design phase of the new Blackfalds 9-12 School, as led by The Workun Garrick Partnership Architecture and Interior Design, with the overall schematic design of the school being reviewed by Alberta Infrastructure.
