Most activities free
Discover, experience and celebrate arts and culture during Alberta Culture Days, September 1 – 30. The annual three-day festival has been expanded to a month-long celebration and Red Deerians are invited to join the fun at over 20 local events happening online, in person and outdoors.
Alberta Culture Days showcases many forms of art and culture celebrated in our community with a variety of interactive activities. Most activities are free to attend and family friendly. This year includes family art making activities, dance lessons and demonstrations, museum exhibitions, art demonstrations, storytelling and live music performances, to name a few.
“We’re excited to partner with local arts and culture organizations to once again share this celebration with Red Deerians,” said Tara O’Donnel, Culture Superintendent. “Delivery methods for some events have been changed to online or outdoor, and we hope the community feels encouraged to participate and learn more about our city’s thriving arts and culture sector.”
As part of the citywide celebrations, The City of Red Deer is hosting a community art project. Red Deerians of all ages are invited to participate by painting a heart, using provided acrylic paints and canvases. The hearts will be combined to form one large artwork, which will be gifted to the Red Deer Hospital as a community thank you to front line health care workers.
“Community is a key component of Alberta Culture Days and this project is a way Red Deerians can show united support for local front line health care workers while observing public health restrictions. Anyone, regardless of age or artistic ability, is invited to participate,” said O’Donnell.
A complete list of events and locations is available on the city’s website: www.reddeer.ca/AlbertaCultureDays.
