Red Deer County would like to encourage residents to support the Benalto Community Garden in their quest for a $2,500 prize from Scott’s Miracle-Gro Canada.
The group has created a video about their community garden project and posted in on the Scott’s Canada Facebook Page. The more likes and shares the video receives, the better its chances of winning the prize.
Construction of the Benalto Community Garden finished up in the first week of June and local gardeners as well as the Boys & Girls Club eagerly planted their garden boxes right away, brightening up the front of the Benalto Community facility and giving local families and youth a space to plant their own gardens.
“Based on the success of our first year, Scotts Canada is looking forward to offering another year of Gro for Good grants to green space projects that improve and help our youth and communities connect outdoors and enjoy the benefits of gardening,” says Karen Stephenson, Director, Regulatory Affairs & Stakeholder Relations for Scotts Canada. Gardening has been shown to provide multiple benefits, such as, encouraging healthy eating habits while learning how to grow your own food, and the health benefits that come from being outdoors and interacting with nature and other members of your community.”
