Former Coach’s Corner co-host Ron MacLean is appearing at a federal Liberal Party fundraiser on Dec. 18.

Liberal MP for Milton, Ont., Adam van Koeverden, announced the event on Facebook saying, “Our friend Ron MacLean has very generously offered to help us finish 2020 with a little fundraiser to ensure that our next election is well funded.”

“A conversation about sport and politics in Canada,” will be a virtual event. It costs $400 to attend.

Hockey Night in Canada fans across Canada were disappointed with MacLean last year, saying he “threw Cherry under the bus” after Cherry’s controversial comments about the poppy in November 2019.

Cherry had said, “You people love … you people that come here, whatever it is, you love our way of life, you love our milk and honey. At least you could pay a couple of bucks for a poppy or something like that.”

Cherry was fired one week later.

Cherry told Hockey Insiders he was surprised and hurt MacLean threw him under the bus to protect himself.

“Well, yeah. After 35 years I guess so,” said Cherry.

“I had one friend call and say he’s ‘Judas’ but I don’t really want to be too hard on him.

“But I was surprised.”

MacLean was fired twice by Hockey Night in Canada and Cherry successfully worked to get him back both times.
